Packaging solutions provider Amcor has partnered with Fedrigoni to develop a “groundbreaking”, recycle-ready flexible packaging solution for wet wipes. This collaboration combines Amcor’s AmPrima Plus flow wraps with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid label.

A fully recyclable wet wipe pack that can be processed in PE recycling streams, this innovation helps brands, in the home and personal care industry, comply with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates all packaging be recyclable by 2030. The new packaging solution not only supports sustainability but also offers tangible benefits to brands, including reduced plastic usage, potential savings on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees, and a lower carbon footprint.

The solution has been certified as recyclable by Recyclass and cyclos-HTP, and Amcor’s flow wrap can also incorporate Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) content. This development is in line with the PPWR’s requirements for recycled content in plastic packaging by 2030. The new packaging design reduces weight by up to 15% and lowers carbon emissions by up to 55%, as confirmed by Amcor’s Asset life cycle assessment.

Geoffrey Gendebien, marketing manager at Amcor, emphasised the importance of collaboration, while Federico Lanzi, marketing and R&D director at Fedrigoni Self-adhesives, highlighted the role of innovation in meeting environmental goals.

Mr Lanzi concluded: “As a challenging and technical sector, improving the recycle-readiness of home and personal care products will be instrumental to the success of the PPWR regulation. By combining Fedrigoni’s leadership in adhesive labelling with Amcor’s expertise in responsible packaging, we are proud to offer a solution that champions customer-centric design.
