Coveris is set to introduce its new SleeveFlexR Stretch solution which is made with up to 75% recycled content at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, held from April 1–2 at RAI Amsterdam.
Developed in collaboration with Coveris’ recycling division, ReCover, SleeveFlexR Stretch is part of the company’s broader efforts to promote a circular economy. The packaging solution utilises recycled sleeve waste materials collected through established recycling systems. These materials are processed at ReCover’s facility, where Coveris’ de-inking technology removes ink, yielding high-quality post-consumer recyclate (PCR). The company said the solution will set a new benchmark for the stretch sleeve market.
Available in 35%, 50%, or 75% recycled content options, SleeveFlexR Stretch complies with European Union Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) standards and the UK Plastic Packaging Tax. The company added that the stretch sleeves, made from polyethylene (PE), offer excellent elasticity, allowing them to fit tightly around containers without the need for heat or glue – making it an efficient solution for sectors like beverages, dairy, home and personal care, and agrochemicals.
The SleeveFlexR Stretch solution is designed to work seamlessly with existing recycling infrastructure, promoting a circular process where both bottles and sleeves are recycled together. By offering a high-impact 360-degree design, the packaging enhances brand visibility while mitigating the visual effects of PCR content in primary packaging, Coveris explained.
“This is a breakthrough for the stretch sleeve market,” said Philipp Niehues, business development director at ReCover. “By combining Coveris’ packaging expertise with our award-winning ReCover de-inking technology, we’ve created an innovative sleeve-to-sleeve recycling model for post-consumer material. It works with existing infrastructure and the option of 35%, 50% or 75% levels of high-quality recycled content moves us beyond PPWR compliance to offer real circularity and a broad portfolio of sustainable solutions for our customers.”
