OPRL (On-Pack Recycling Label) has announced the appointment of its non-executive director Karen Graley as head of the UK’s, soon to be set up, EPR Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO).

Interim managing director of OPRL Jude Allan believes Ms Graley is the “perfect” person for this role at a pivotal moment in pEPR. Her breadth of experience, collaborative style and drive to make positive change will make a great impact, Ms Allan added.

As head of the PRO, Ms Graley will work with PackUK and industry stakeholders to set up the EPR Producer Responsibility Organisation. The PRO is being led by the Food and Drink Federation and Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment, to drive improvements in the UK’s recycling system and ensure that the funds raised by EPR are used to boost recycling rates and create a circular economy for packaging.

Ms Allan concluded: “At OPRL we have been lucky to have Karen at the heart of our business since the beginning. As joint-chair of the OPRL Technical Advisory Committee, she ensures that our recommendations are evidence-based and well-informed. Her strategic overview and drive to make a difference, evaluate and make considered decisions – on a materials-agnostic basis – have been hugely valued. We are really excited for what the future brings.”
