Kidderminster-based Aztec Label has installed Fujifilm’s LuXtreme LED curing system for its flexo presses, which run on the manufacturer’s Flenex water-washable plates and Sericol JJ LED UV inks.
The curing equipment was installed in May 2024, and owner Colin Le Gresley said it has ‘proven to be a game changer’.
He continued, ‘The operators appreciate the simplicity of the controls, and the LED response time is perfect. As soon as we’re ready to print, we can dry our inks almost instantaneously, with no delays. Through rigorous testing, we demonstrated a remarkable 63% reduction in power consumption compared to traditional UV systems. With energy prices soaring, this shift not only makes financial sense but also aligns with our continued commitment to sustainability,’
The transition to LED curing has enabled the self-adhesive label producer to maintain its energy costs comparable to a decade ago, despite tripling production in that time.
‘The longevity and low maintenance needs of LED systems are expected to reduce costs and downtime significantly, moving away from the costly and time-consuming routine of annual lamp changes,’ Mr Le Gresley said. ‘Looking ahead, we are excited about the future and confident that Fujifilm will play a pivotal role in our journey.’
