Baumer hhs, developer and manufacturer of industrial gluing and quality assurance solutions, has introduced a new ‘Slot’ option for its CorrBox Solution that it says takes measuring slot depth in box production on flexo folder gluers to an ‘unprecedented level’.
Marcell van Meegen, head of business development at Baumer hhs, emphasised the importance of measuring slot depth in box production, highlighting the flaws that could occur if this process were not done correctly. He said if slot depth is not die-cut correctly, packaging produced on a flexo folder gluer could easily become unusable; if slots aren’t deep enough, the flaps cannot be folded; if the slots are too deep, the protection of the box is compromised; and if the geometry and position of the slots are not right, the boxes may not close properly.
The company has underlined two main advantages of its new option: it is easy to operate and works with a high-performance SCX 1000 contrast sensor to deliver reliable results even at maximum machine speeds. The SCX 1000 creates a sharp contrast between the die-cut slots and the darker background, enabling the high-powered sensor to ‘see’ whether the position, geometry and depth/length of the slots are cut correctly.
The contrast sensor is equipped with a light source and has ‘camera-like’ properties. Its teach-in function means no settings need to be made by the operator, further shortening setup times for quality assurance. The new slot option is also fully integrated in the Xtend3 controller from Baumer hhs, meaning it can be operated right from the user interface.
Other benefits of the CorrBox Solution link to sustainability, with operators given the option of manually entering different slot lengths for the bottom and top flaps of boxes in production. Operators can also determine when deviations should be rated as errors, enhancing both the economic efficiency and sustainability of production processes. If flawed boxes are detected, the CorrBox Solution’s slot option triggers an acoustic signal to alert the machine operator which visualises the error live on the display of the Xtend3 controller and marks the affected boxes on the side with UV ink, allowing machine operators to react immediately and modify process parameters.
Mr van Meegen added, ‘Our new slot option, with its ease-of-use and high performance, represents an important innovation for our customers, because it helps them prevent complaints, cut costs and underline their reliability as packaging suppliers. As with all our solutions, we worked closely with customers to develop this new option. And that alone ensures it will meet all the demands of the market in the best-possible way.’
According to the company, the slot module is very easy to retrofit on flexo folder gluers already equipped with the CorrBox Solution. As a complete package, it includes the sensor, a mount with crosspiece, a light barrier and a cable.
‘The Slot option adds yet another function to our CorrBox Solution in addition to Bundle 24. It takes our customers another step closer to the goal of zero defects in packaging production,’ said Mr van Meegen. ‘Our revolutionary system for gluing and quality control in corrugated packaging production on flexo folder gluers has rapidly become established on the global market. Many of our customers around the world have now switched over to this latest generation of equipment, and they are seeing remarkable results that strengthen their competitiveness,’ he concluded.
