A collaborative project between form-fill-seal technology developer Volpak, and speciality label and packaging paper manufacturer and distributor Lecta aims to bridge the gap between material innovation and practical application, ensuring eco-friendly papers meet the operational requirements of modern packaging lines.
Lecta has created a new range of recyclable, metallised uncoated and coated one side papers with barrier properties, designed to be environmentally friendly while also providing protection against things such as water vapour, grease, oxygen and alcohol. These papers will be tested in Volpak’s internal ‘pouch lab’ research facility, in ‘real-world scenarios’ that help to evaluate the materials’ machinability and durability in simulated production conditions.
The two companies said that by focusing on paper-based packaging which is recyclable and aligns with circular economy principles, they are addressing consumer preferences and contributing to reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
