Coveris, international packaging manufacturer, has partnered with Interzero, environmental service provider, to ‘close the loop in plastics recycling’.

With this collaboration, Coveris and Interzero claim they are creating an advantage in the entire value chain, helping to achieve key sustainability goals, such as reducing CO2 footprint, waste prevention, securing raw materials, and adhering to governmental packaging and waste regulations.

Coveris CEO Christian Kolarik said the company’s ‘No Waste’ vision, which includes the launch of ReCover, a waste recycling process which advances the circular economy for plastics, aligns with its partner’s vision.

Interzero buys and sells used plastics in numerous countries. The company then recycles the plastic through its sorting plants creating recycled pellets and compounds for a wide range of industrial applications.

Interzero’s collected and sorted materials will now be processed by Coveris’ ReCover facilities, producing recycled resins through mechanical recycling in a quality that Coveris claims is unmatched in the market. These resins will then be used in Coveris’ high-performance packaging products, such as Duralite R collation films. This is a ‘significant’ step towards completely closing the loop, said Mr Kolarik.

Jan Kroker, CEO at Interzero believes that by working with Coveris, both companies can make a substantial impact on reducing waste, a joint project which benefits everyone. Interzero will leverage its expertise in waste collection and sorting to support the creation of high-quality recycled resins from the partnership. This will shape the circular economy of tomorrow – for a world without waste, concluded Mr Kroker.
