Pet food brand Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo has switched its packaging to a new range of premium mono-material recyclable materials from Mondi, following a collaboration between the two organisations.
The Select Gold dry pet food range will now be packaged in Mondi’s FlexiBag Recyclable, BarrierPack Recyclable and Recyclable StandUp Pouches products, all of which are mono-material packaging solutions with strong barrier properties to protect against moisture. One hundred and fifty different pet food packaging designs have been created for the new Select Gold food, ranging from 300g to 12kg packs.
The packs have been printed by Mondi with the expanded colour gamut (ECG) approach using just process colours, with screening technology used by German prepress house U.Günther used to deliver sharp text and visuals on the packs. With no colour changes needed from pack design to pack design, the prepress and printing process has been less resource heavy in terms of inks, chemicals adding to the sustainable nature of the project.
Fitore Loshaj, regional sales Germany, Austria & Switzerland for consumer flexibles at Mondi said, ‘Consumers across the globe are calling on companies to contribute to a circular economy. Our team worked closely with Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo to design a packaging solution that is recyclable, fit-for-purpose and visually appealing – protecting the product while being easy to use.’
Yannick Christiaens, senior expert, lead product development & sourcing dry food at Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo added, ‘Collaborating with Mondi made this a truly enjoyable process. Our two and four-legged customers trust us, they know we love pets and that we are committed to creating a better world for all of us. This is part of that – our 150 different pack designs are part of our sustainability journey and there will be more to come.’
