Three key packaging manufacturing and printing companies have signed up to the BPIF-supported Packaging 2 Recycling scheme.
Sites belonging to Essentra, Herbert Walkers and Crystal Press will now focus on achieving 100% recycling of the waste materials generated from the manufacturing and printing of packaging.
The scheme is designed to promote the environmental credentials of carton board as a packaging material. It is operated by Prismm Environmental and is sponsored by the British Printing Industry Federation (BPIF).
Companies that sign up to the programme commit to best practice recycling and in return receive certification and an industry-recognised logo to promote their achievement.
Prismm Environmental managing director Mike Jackson said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Essentra, Herbert Walkers and Crystal Press to the Packaging 2 Recycling scheme.
‘These are companies that range in size and represent a cross section of the industry that can benefit from this scheme.
‘By joining Packaging 2 Recycling, these companies will be able to promote their sustainable use of carton board to major brands and other customers, who increasingly require this from their supply chains.
‘Prismm is also committed to helping these companies with all duty of care requirements as part of the scheme.’
As well as receiving the certification and logo, Prismm will also undertake site assessments to look at how the businesses can improve the sustainability of their recycling operations, while also increasing revenue from their carton board.
Materials that qualify for the scheme include all fibre based packaging and products including various laminated boards and papers.
