David Nussbaum, who has been the chief executive officer of WWF-UK since 2007, will take a leading role at this October’s Carton Conference, which is taking place at the Business Design Centre in London. Mr Nussbaum, who has previously held a number of high profile roles including chief executive of Transparency International and finance director of Oxfam, will be focusing his speech on the place of packaging in a sustainable world.
Mr Nussbaum is no stranger to packaging and will be drawing on his previous experience as finance director of the European packaging company, Field Group plc (now rebranded Chesapeake), where he helped the company through a management buyout and subsequent flotation on the London Stock Exchange. He said, ‘I have a soft spot for cartons as they are made from one of the few materials that is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. It is also clear that the right type of packaging can help to support the environment by minimising waste. At WWF, we work for a world with a future in which people and nature thrive – that means tackling the big threats to people and planet.’
Neal Whipp, BPIF Cartons – general manager, said, ‘I’m delighted that David has agreed to speak at this year’s conference. David will reflect on a wealth of experience which is sure to engage the audience. Over the coming weeks, we expect to announce more news on our speaker programme as well as further major industry sponsors who will be backing this event. The conference will be relevant to all parts of the supply chain, but it will have a particular emphasis on packaging specifiers. We expect to welcome many leading brand owners to the event.’
Mr Nussbaum, who is also a non-executive director of the quoted private equity fund Low Carbon Accelerator and of the leading Fair Trade finance company Shared Interest, went on to say, ‘This is an exciting time for the carton sector particularly as the environment is at the forefront of many brand-owners’ minds.’
