Atlas Converting Equipment Ltd received an order for a Titan ER610 compact slitter rewinder from Heukäufer Folien GmbH during the drupa 2012. The company is located in Herten, north-west Germany and will install the new slitter in a new, purpose-built production hall during August this year.

Heukäufer Folien GmbH has been established for more than 90 years and has become one of Germany’s leading suppliers of specialised printed and composite films and flexible packaging materials, mainly used in the food processing sector.

‘We decided some time ago that we needed to improve our productivity and replace an existing slitter rewinder’, explained Kurt Barth, managing director. ‘The Titan ER610 model is very compact and is a perfect solution for our production requirements. We took some time to research the market and consider several suppliers, but we were very impressed by the high performance of the Titan machine during a demonstration some months ago. We are looking forward very much to increasing our slitting capacity within the next few months.’

The new slitter will be for materials up to 1350 mm wide with a maximum speed of 450 m/min. Rewind diameters can be up to 610 mm with a minimum slit width of 35 mm. The slitter will also be equipped with laser safety scanners, a static control system and edge trim extraction system.

The Titan ER610 has been a great success for Atlas Converting Equipment with sales of more than 100 machines worldwide. It is available in two web widths – 1350 and 1650 mm, and features a 10″ touch screen control system. A pneumatically controlled braking system provides accurate web tension control and a digital edge-guide system controls lateral movement of the unwind reel to +/- 50 mm.

Slitting systems available include shear knives, rotary razor (burst) or razor slitting in air or groove. Optional features include laser (line) core positioning and also a shaftless unwind roll pick-up from the floor.

The slitter can process a wide range of flexible materials including plain, printed, coated or metallised film from 20 to 200 micron, a wide range of laminates and paper from 30 to 200 gsm. It is a more environmentally friendly solution with reduced power consumption, no hydraulics for oil-free, hygienic operation, un-lubricated compressed air for zero oil/air emissions and less steel through its compact design. Its ‘one-piece’ construction also enables rapid installation and commissioning.
