Will Topps and Lewis Joce from Barnstaple Rugby Club take time out to relax on the Bum Box.

In order to allay concerns that a portable cardboard chair weighing just 500 grammes is only suitable for lightweights, Atlas Packaging, UK and European licence holders of the globally patented Bum Box, has tested it to its limits with the help of two heavyweights from Barnstable Rugby Club.

The Bum Box, an innovation that offers an affordable and practical seating solution at outdoor events, has significant benefits for both the user and potential sponsors. Made from corrugated cartonboard, any design, branding logo or image can be printed onto the seat, and as it can be folded flat and easily carried home, it is likely that it will be kept for future use.

For the user, it provides a light, portable and easy to assemble seating device which is made of corrugated board and therefore 100% recyclable and biodegradable. It can be adorned with any manner of design and logo, using lithographic printing techniques, flexo post print or silk screen printing. The board will also feature a poly coating which provides water resilience and adds to the strength and durability of the product.

North Devon based Atlas, specialists in corrugated board packaging, has been granted the exclusive European distribution rights for the Bum Box, an Australian invention, and are planning to promote the concept to marketing and PR companies in the UK over the next few months.

Jason Sharman, managing director, commented on the test, ‘One of the most frequently asked questions is whether the Bum Box really is sturdy enough to withstand the weight of a fully grown adult. Our latest test shows that this is certainly the case. Our testers weighed 85 kg and 123 kg and, as you can see, the Bum Boxes are living up to their promise of supporting a maximum weight of 120 kg.’
