The next generation Titan SR9-DT Dual Turret slitter rewinder during the Open House demonstration at Atlas Converting North America
At a recent open house event in September, Atlas Converting North America celebrated the inauguration of its new demonstration centre in Charlotte, North Carolina. More than 30 guests over the two day event were able to see live demonstrations of the new Titan SR9 Series Dual Turret (DT) slitter rewinder together with presentations from partner suppliers Dienes (slitting technology), BST (web guiding and inspection) and LasX (laser perforation and scoring). Many of the guests also took part in a special Atlas-Titan Golf Challenge, which was held at the Ballantyne Golf Club in Charlotte.
During the demonstration, the Titan SR9-DT rewinder processed a 50 micron, clear BOPP plastic film supplied in collaboration with Triangle Plastics, Inc a leading converter based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The demos were running at speeds of up to 1000 m/min with turret cycle times of less than 30 seconds.
In the development of the Titan SR9 series, Atlas focused its product development strategy on achieving significant reductions in machine downtime for printers and converters, with lower operator intervention and also reduction of costly waste materials.
The concept of the Titan SR9 Series technology platform features three separate machine modules of unwind, slitter and rewind sections. The idea being that a converter need only change the rewind section of the machine from a Dual Shaft (DS) to a Single Turret (ST) or Dual Turret (DT) configuration, to meet changing production requirements, without the need to change the existing unwind and slitting modules.
The Titan SR9-DT rewinder was launched last November at ICE Europe 2011 and the Dual Shaft (DS) module was introduced earlier this year. The Single Turret (ST) module is due to be introduced early next year.
A newly designed Linear Tracking Slitter (LTS) section ensures the shortest and a constant web length between the knives and the rewind shafts for improved web control giving the highest possible side wall quality of rewind reels and also reducing the possibility of waste material. The series is available in two widths, 1650 and 2250 mm.
A new service platform for both the Atlas and Titan range of slitter rewinders is now in place. This provides 24/7 customer service and support operations with engineers based locally in Charlotte, NC, in the UK, in India and in China. The company also provides fully automated and integrated roll handling systems to meet specific production requirements.
