Will Oldham, managing director, said that proposed changes would result in the number of roles at the site reducing at API Foils in Livingston, as a proposed site reorganisation comes into effect.
The site produces decorative foils for high quality packaging and provides for the premium wines and spirits markets, including supplying the foil on the labels and cartons of many of Scotland’s leading whisky brands.
The proposed reorganisation is to prepare for significant investment in new metalising and coating equipment, leading to an increased total plant output.
Customer service and conversion for customers in Scotland and deep sea markets would be retained in Livingston, where the company is based, while a new sales and service operation would be established in England to improve penetration of this important market area.
Mr Oldham, commented, ‘As our central manufacturing site, Livingston is the heart of our business and by streamlining operations and focusing on manufacturing, it would enable the site to achieve higher productivity. This is a crucial opportunity for the site to upgrade its equipment and secure its position for the long term. Unfortunately the proposed changes would result in the number of roles at the site reducing and accordingly a consultation process has commenced. Nevertheless, a successful transition to a new operating model would result in a higher quality, more sustainable business for all stakeholders; customers, employees and shareholders.’
