Esko has installed the first CDI Spark 2420 flexo plate imager in Europe at Label24.de, a division of Druckerei Heinen, in Bad Münstereifel, Germany.

The company chose the flexo plate imager based on the quality and scalability of the system. It replaced the film based production solution that the company was previously using. The company wanted a chemistry-free plate imaging solution that would set new standards for output quality.

Jochem Heinen, managing partner, said, ‘We tested both the CDI Spark and an inkjet film imager, in our opinion, Esko is the only manufacturer that could meet our challenging requirements for digital imaging.’

The company launched the CDI Spark 2420 for the tag and label market, the buyers in which are increasingly demanding high quality flexo and a wider diversity of printing applications. In a bid to meet this demand the machine is designed to image plate sizes up to 609 mm x 508 mm and to facilitate a wider range of plate materials, including digital flexo plates, chemistry free film, digital foil-based letterpress plates, digital metal-based letterpress plates and digital silk screens.

The quality delivered by the machine enables gradations of as little as 1%, an accomplishment that was not possible with the previous film-based process.

Mr Heinen, added, ‘With the CDI, we have been able to boost our label quality significantly. Our imaging operation is also now much safer, and we can deliver a standardised image quality that delights our customers. Possible errors can be seen during preview before incurring the expense of plate imaging. We also no longer have issues with deterioration of screens with gradation.’
