Phoseon UV LED technology incorporated on Mark Andy’s Performance Series press
Phoseon Technology has been developing UV LED technology since 2002, and since then the technology has gained worldwide adoption in the label and narrow web market. At Labelexpo Europe, itcould be seen on inkjet and flexo OEM stands throughout the show.
The interest for UV LED continues to grow in inkjet and screen printers, and now flexo and offset is following. Today, UV LEDs are finally taking their place as a mainstream curing technology and the show provided the proof. At Labelexpo 2011 there were 10 UV LED lamps on display while at the 2013 show there were more than 80 UV LED lamps on machines and display.
The Label Industry Global Award for Innovation was jointly won by Mark Andy and Flint Group Narrow Web for its work in UV LED technology. Flint Group was honoured for its Ekocure UV LED inks which the judges described as providing improved cure response, cost and productivity savings, waste reduction, energy savings and enhanced safety that will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the future of the label industry. Mark Andy was singled out for its ProLED ink curing technology, whichdelivers high production rates and energy savings in excess of 50% when compared to traditional Hg UV systems.
In cooperation with its industrial partner Siegwerk, Gallus also demonstrated the benefits of UV LED drying technology on the Gallus EM 280 press using the latest UV LED inks from Siegwerk, the new ink series Sicura Screen LEDTec and Sicura Flex LEDTec. MPS also demonstrated UV LED curing on its EF-APC press.
