The packaging and labels trade show, Packaging Innovations, continued to showcase the capabilities within the packaging and labelling industry for the second day at the NEC, Birmingham 26-27 February.
Following on from a busy first day, the second of the two day trade show held plenty in store for visitors.
Ian Schofield, own label manager Iceland Foods, gave a discussion on packaging challenges for retail. Mr Schofield said, ‘We have a big project in improving our own shelf ready packaging, however, but packaging suppliers have to wake up to the needs of the consumer when it comes to home delivery, we need some solutions in this area.’
He continued, ‘Quality within the flexo sector is getting better and better, we currently have better dots than in any other time in our lives right now.’
The BIG Print Debate looked at the many new printing technologies that have appeared in recent years and asked whether they are just gimmicks or users can in fact expect a sound ROI. There was a general consensus that there are huge opportunities for brand owners and other users to employ these sophiticated techniques, but care must be taken to use them to provide relevant and useful information, and engage in a meaningful dialogue with consumers.
With a packed programme of seminars and a host of key speakers from the packaging and printing industry there were plenty of reasons for visitors to get excited and many of the exhibitors were impressed with the amount of leads they were able to generate.
