PPP Digital Imaging will use GMG colour management technologies for all proofing requirements, as well as for its new Fusion Fixed Palette packaging print service.

The company offers a range of design, imaging, and repro services to their blue-chip clients, mainly in the food packaging industry

‘Our previous proofing solution was slow, expensive and required constant calibration to perform at its best,’ said Phil Gibbons, Studio Manager. ‘I already knew of GMG’s formidable reputation in all things colour-related, so invited them in to show us their solutions. Within a very short space of time during the demonstration, everyone here knew that a GMG-based proofing solution was where we needed to move to.’

The company initially invested in FlexoProof and ProofControl software applications to bring its proofing and colour management services to the next level. More recently, it invested in OpenColor software solution. Driving both Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and WT7900 proofing engines.

OpenColor is a specialist solution for the accurate and consistent reproduction of jobs that use a combination of process (CMYK) as well as spot colours – a situation that’s very common within the food packaging industry.

‘GMG gives us the control to both produce and replicate the quality of reproduction that our clients expect,’ said Mr Gibbons. ‘In addition, GMG OpenColor has allowed us to reduce the amount of press fingerprinting that we do and given us the ability to monitor consistency with our Fusion Fixed Palette offering.’

The next step for the company is an innovative and cost-effective print services solution that offers reduced colour printing, but with a considerably increased colour gamut when compared to conventional CMYK process inks. PPP has branded this Fusion Fixed Palette, and are implementing a custom GMG configuration for proofing.

‘The concept is straightforward,’ continued Phil. ‘By using inks that are of a spectrally-purer nature, along with the benefits our Fusion imaging and plate technology bring, we are able to reproduce a significantly higher number of non-standard colours with just four inks without our clients having to resort to the extra expense and lead time that spot colour printing often entails.’
