Danish manufacturer of pre-press equipment, Glunz & Jensen A/S has acquired an initial 16.8 % stake in Othonia Curing Technology A/S, a company that develops computer‐controlled UV LED systems.
Glunz & Jensen is looking to exploit the advantages of UV LED in a number of areas. It will incorporate the technology in its current exposure products for the flexographic pre-press industry, where it can benefit the production of photopolymer plates, making it more environmentally friendly and cost effective. It brings to the market a generic product that can be tailor made for OEM partners. Initial field tests have shown very promising results and the company plans to launch the first commercial product in the first quarter of 2015.
UV LED technology can also be used in connection with the drying modules of printing units for offset, flexo, as well as digital printing machines. The company is in close dialogue with printing press manufacturers and has performed an initial concept evaluation, showing very promising results.
Moving forward, Glunz & Jensen and Othonia will cooperate on the development and commercialisation of the technology. Othonia’s products will be marketed by Glunz & Jensen.
