Label producer Simp’ex Ltd, based in Mauritius, has taken delivery of an e-Flex 330 six colour, full servo flexo press, manufactured by Focus Label Machinery Ltd. As well as self-adhesive labels, Simp’ex manufactures a wide range of narrow web products across several different market areas. The decision to invest in the new press was taken in order to facilitate greater efficiency for existing product lines and to provide a platform for expansion into new market areas.
The new e-Flex is a fully servo-driven, modular press with two flexo heads per print module, and is supplied with print widths of 330 mm and 430 mm. Several different drying systems are available, including full UV, LED, infra-red – or combination drying systems, with optional chill rollers for heat sensitive substrates. The press frame has been designed to accommodate various dryer combinations, whilst still maintaining the shortest possible web path.
Servo-driven print cylinders and impression rollers enable point to point pre-register set up and full auto register, resulting in quicker set up times, precise print registration and reduced material wastage across a range of substrates. Bearer rings are incorporated into the print cylinder assembly, to guarantee accurate print impression settings, regardless of substrate.
Serge Pigeot, director of Simp’ex, said, ‘The open architecture design of the print stations enables easy loading of ink cartridges and print cylinders, whilst interchangeable print cartridges can be partially or fully unloaded and exchanged, in order to maximise productivity and minimise downtime. The print cartridge assemblies can be cleaned off press, allowing our operator to maintain uninterrupted production.’
He continued, ‘We looked at a number of options before deciding on the e-Flex. This press ticked all the boxes for us and we were impressed by the ease of operation and the accurate print registration – even with rapid speed changes. Not only does the e-Flex serve our present requirements, but the modular design will allow us to add further optional equipment in the future. Focus has been very helpful and professional, listening to our particular requirements and providing tailored solutions.’
Individual HMI control panels allow the operator to control the press from any print station. For efficient repeatability, job data can be stored via the main control panel, using a clear, intuitive menu system. Information can be saved and recalled for repeat jobs or linked to management systems, for real time analysis.
A rail system has been mounted along the top of the press, allowing optional overhead press equipment to be easily transported to the required position. Options such as turn-bar, delam-relam, cold foil, laminating, waste rewind turret and scanner systems can all be rail mounted.
Heavy duty, servo driven die-cutting units with removable anvils are provided for converting a range of substrates from film to light carton-board.
David Lee, Focus Label Machinery director, commented, ‘The e-Flex platform provides the possibility for stepped specification levels, according to client requirements and budget – but with built in essentials, such as high speed job changes, automated set ups and increased efficiency in all aspects of design and operation. We are delighted that Simp’ex has selected the eFlex 330 for their first full-servo flexo press and we look forward to building a strong working relationship with them.’
