Before the doors were opened at Labelexpo Europe 2015, the Gallus group revealed the first of many hybrid presses to be launched at this year’s show, the DCS 340.
Michael Ring, vice president, worldwide sales and marketing digital solutions, described the press as ‘printing as it’s meant to be’ with a workflow which can take the printer from the prepress file all the way to a finished label in one pass. The press can reach a native resolution of 1200×1200 dpi with a drop size of 2 pl in eight colours (CMYK+GOV + White) which are fixed, and can reach speeds of 50m/min.
Although covered in Gallus branding the press is the product of a collaboration between Gallus, Heidelberg and Fujifilm. The inkjet print heads are from the Fujifilm Samba family of print heads and the press uses the Heidelberg Prinect workflow software and can integrate with any prepress software.
Christof Naier, vice president sales and marketing, said, ‘The groups press range makes the company more flexible, innovative and customer focused than ever.’ The company may be making a lot of noise about its new digital capabilities but it has not forgotten about its role in the conventional printing sector either.
The DCS uses technology from the Gallus ECS for the conventional side of the press. The digital front end (DFE) asses the job being printed and allocates which part will be printed conventionally and which part will be printed digitally.
