Herma’s new slitting machine

Berkshire-based Herma UK has invested over £500,000 in new slitting machines that operate around the clock, to keep pace with increasing demand for film-based adhesive materials with multi-layer adhesives.

The company’s self-adhesive materials division is registering sustained growth, not least due to innovative multi-layer technology. After a new slitting machine was recently put in to operation at the company’s headquarters in Filderstadt, Germany, its British subsidiary – which grew by more than 30% last year – has also invested in a slitting machine for film-based materials. At a maximum speed of 800 m/min, the new slitting machine enables processing of large orders as well as small, while providing consistently high quality along with short setup times.

Colin Phillips, director of the self-adhesive materials division, said, ‘Thanks to our multi-layer technology, printers can produce labels from film-based label stock much more easily and with less adhesive bleeding and reduced contamination of the slitting dies. Moreover, we are currently registering a very buoyant market, with many customers and end users demanding a next day service and due to the new slitting machine we are able to fulfill these demands.’
