The SAMM Postprint
Dutch manufacturer of mounting and proofing equipment, AV Flexologic has introduced a semi-automatic mounting machine (SAMM) for the corrugated industry. The SAMM Postprint has been developed in close collaboration with the company’s customers to eliminate press downtime caused by mounting mistakes and to optimise the pre-press workflow.
Featuring automatic image recognition, robotic positioning of the plate and automatic quality checks, the machine allows for precise mounting of flexo plates (down to 5 microns) onto mylars.
A computer controls the motorised positioning of the cameras as well as the gearless rotation of the dummy and optional proofing cylinder. Each mounting position can be reached in seconds. The positions are stored in the computer and can be recalled at any time to minimise set-up time with repeating jobs.
Martijn Otten, general manager, said, ‘Along with accuracy and speed this machine also eases the job of the operator. The flexo plate only has to be roughly positioned after which the machine mounts it with the highest accuracy. The mounting is completed with a pressure roller which saves the operator significant physical effort.’
He continues, ‘The first feedback has been very positive and we can’t wait to show this machine to the rest of the industry at drupa.’
