Tennessee-based Gateway Packaging Company has partnered with Asahi Photoproducts and its North American Distributor CTGA.
The packaging provider operates three locations serving the United States and Canada supplying manufacturers of consumer goods as well as producing industrial packaging for the food, agricultural, chemical and charcoal industries.
The company has made significant investment in a new platemaking department, switching to Asahi’s flexographic plates with Clean Transfer. Gateway has estimated a payback period of 10 months based on the productivity and quality gains it would deliver.
Tharrin Akers, prepress manager, said, ‘We ran a number of production jobs to compare efficiency with our current process, and were very pleased with the results achieved using the Asahi solutions. We were able to run the press at 500m/min and only had to stop for plate cleaning once, which took 20 minutes, resulting in a 53% improvement in Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).’
